2021 Favorite Books & Reflections

🍾Happy New Year, everyone! I cannot believe it’s the last day of this year. Where has the time gone?

I read the least amount of books since I started #bookstagram , being a #bookblogger 5.5 years ago, but I have never been the type that set strict reading goals for myself. Usually, I hope to read at least 52 books per year, and I’ve always exceeded that. This year, I’m not quite sure. I wasn’t as diligent with keeping up with Goodreads either. But I think I’ve read a little over 60 books or so.

Out of the books I’ve read, these are my favorite / most memorable ones. Reading is funny, though. I look back at some of them, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t give them all 5-star reviews. But, some are unforgettable and stay with you for a long time, such as INTERIOR CHINATOWN (the book was confusing but so original and unique), THE HEART PRINCIPLE, CRYING IN H-MART. This year, one book that particularly blew me away was YOLK by Mary H.K. Choi. It was such a breath of fresh air to read a book by an East-Asian author that doesn’t include strict and oppressive immigrant parents.

I don’t know if I can name my favorite book, but if I had to choose, I think it’d be SONG OF SOLOMON.

Overall, not too bad of a reading year, considering our big move and other life factors. 2021 has been a challenging year, full of unexpected setbacks, all while dealing with the pandemic. We’re still reeling in the effects of it, and it doesn’t look like the pandemic is going away anytime soon.

✨But I’d like to end 2021 on a more hopeful note. First, I’m grateful my small family could move to Las Vegas safely! We are so thankful we finally live in a house after living in a 595 sqft apartment for eight years! Beyond grateful that we got to see and family and most of our friends. We’re both in good health, have jobs, and despite the ups and downs, our marriage is stronger than ever. Lastly, I'm incredibly grateful for this community that always inspires me in ways you’d never imagine.

Cheers to a brighter and happier 2022! I feel good about it since it’s MY year, the year of the tiger! It’’ll be grrrrrreat!🎉
